Good evening forum,

Ive had my Arcadia 35l tank for a while now, it currently has two mollies and two guppies who are doing extremely well in my tank, ive had no problems with them to date.
Ive been looking through the forum and ive had a few ideas for my tank that i thought i would run past for some advice before i mess it all up as this is the first time ive had a fish tank.
Ive done some research and found that the filter that comes with my Arcadia tank isnt the greatest, i have always wondered if it was that great, i currently do a 20% water change every week. I was just wondering if there was any other filters on the market that would be better and more suited?
Im more than willing to get rid of some of the ornaments that ive got if it means that i could get some plants and some more fish, if my tank is big enough? if i can what kind of other fish would be best suited? i wouldnt mind some more guppies as i think the ones i have look awesome :)
Also, ive currently got my tank set up on my bedside unit which is next to my window (which i no is not ideal at the moment) ive noticed more recently that im getting more and more algae grow on the tank which obviously isn't ideal. could i just keep my curtains shut to fix the problem? or would it be better if i just move the tank altogether?
Knowing me, ive forgot to ask something so i might have more to ask lol, but thanks in advance for any suggestions :)

I'm not too sure on filter choice however to prevent your algae problem, the easiest thing to do is move the tank however you could cover the side that is accumulating algae. :good:

Light is light. Any way you control it is ok. Sometimes I find myself having to think a bit though to come up with solutions that keep enough of the right type of light for regular plants, minimize the opportunities for algae and also provide a decent light cycle for fish (which don't necessarily need brighter light like the plants do but which I feel nonetheless appreciate a reasonably natural rythm of light.)

Thanks for all your help so far guys, ive decided that the best thing to do will be to move the tank altogether. Ive been looking at stands to stick my curret tank on and ill probably get a stand that can hold a 60l tank just in case i decide to step up to that size, which i wouldnt be surprised if i do.
Any other suggestions with the other things in my first post?

Thanks again!

i really do like the aqua clear 20 Hang on back filter if your really bothered about your filtration system... some info it says it will do up to 75litre aquariums and i always like to be overfiltered tbh :p

edit:ive also heard good things about the aqueon range of filters too.. maybe worth a look?

Thanks guys, sounds like some good ideas to help me out. Ive been measuring up and trying to find the best way to put my fish tank out of the sunlight, im sure ill find a way :)

To be honest id like to get some more fish if my tank could handle it? maybe some more guppies would be nice! any suggestions?

Thanks again

I think the tank does have the potential to stock a few more guppies, but only 2-3...

:hi:

glad to hear your planning on moving the tank :good:
sorry to be the bearer of bad new but your mollies (silvers looking at the pic) are a little on the large size for your tank

are both the mollies and guppies a pair?

i personally would say take the mollies back and swap them for 3 guppies (totalling 5, preferably males) then you'd have space for a group of shrimp too :good:
