Cucumbers For Plecos

Im new here... but petsmart told me to put cucumbers in my tank for my pleco and other fish to eat. I put one in, using a rubber band, and like an hour later there were all these little greyish round things all over it moving around. I freaked out and took the cucumber out. What did I do wrong or is something wrong with my tank?
 
I dont have a picture. I suppose I could put another cuc in and see what happens.
 
heres a couple pictures of the grey things that are flittering around when i put a cucumber in. they are really tiny and there are ALOT of them
