hi all, I have a juwel rio 240 planted tank, I am assuming all my plants to be fairly basic stuff that hopefully will be fairly easy to cope with. I am pretty certain that the plants include Elodea densa, corckscrew vallis (small) an anubias which I think is barterii. there are three others I'm not sure about although I suspect the 3rd pic to be pygmy chain sword if anyone could identify these for me I would be grateful so I can research what I need for them to thrive. Also on a secondary note how do I know which lights I have t5 or t8, I have checked the juwel site but it doesnt give the exact info I need as the tank is about 5 yrs old so I'm not sure if I have the latest technology lighting system or not. all help will be appreciated .......thanks

Pictureas are a bit small but the last plant looks like its from the Echinodorus family

yeah sorry about that this is the 1st time i have uploaded and not really sure what i'm doing at the mo....will try again

The lighting will be T8 lighting if the tank is that old. It was about 3 years ago when they introduced T5.

as for the plants, the first one a can't make out, the pic is to small. The second looks like a Cryptocoryne Wendtii and the third is a pygmy chain sword. At the moment that is in its unsubmerged (sp) form, expect it to die back. It will come back with the leaves a lot straighter.

yeah the pygmy chains have been dying back I have been cutting the dead leaves off as each one dies although a couple of them have already sent runners out with plantlets on them, not sure if they were there when I bought the plants or if they have grown since I planted them

the first is deffo Crypt. I really can't work out the second one, maybe Hygrophila polysperma Rosanervig or Rotala rotundifolia, i'm stumped.

ok thanks again for the info I will google those names and see if i can recognise the plant, i do know that it has quite fleshy stems and is a very soft plant and was bought as a bunch and not with roots, you have been very helpful

how many stems have you got together in that photo, if there's a few then i'd probably go with Hygrophila, as when bought in a terracotta post, you probably won't find much in the way of roots.

i just googled the names for the second plant and the images weren't the same plant as I have. I will try and get a better detailed photo

there are quite a lot of stems and no roots, came as a bunch wrapped in foam and plant weight

just been to see my lfs and have discovered the identity of the mystery plant. it is rotala macrandra, having just had a quick read up on this plant it seems it's one of the more difficult to keep, so no doubt i wont have it for long :/
