Hello,
I have a nymphaea lotus zenkeri for 7 months and I just noticed that it is developing a flower. I measured it and it’s growing pretty fast, about 2cm per day.
I estimate that in 7 days it will reach the surface.
I have an open top tank with lights (3x39W) at 15 cm distance from the water surface.
Do you have any advice for helping the future flower?
Thanks!
Darius

That is pretty cool stuff. Post pictures of the blossoming flower. Keep doing what you are doing.

I would personally like a full tank shot if you can muster it.

sorry for my photo skills.
I will closely monitor the lotus and post images as soon as I see the flower.

I noticed that the bulb is releasing an oxygen bubble every couple of seconds.
Do you know the reason behind this?
I uploaded a small movie and an updated photo.

I know my barclaya blossom did the same thing. I wouldn't be able to offer a good explanation why. As long as the stalk doesn't look rotted or sick and the bulb looks firm and healthy, I think you're fine. Plant looks in fantastic health. :good: Out of curiosity, can you give some tank stats?

If that blossoms for you, I invite you to post the photo and the video in the plant index and create a profile for this plant.

Wow! Cool!

Your stats reflect some older practices, but I am not one to knock something if it is working well for you... You have more light than is currently the trend here, but you've got CO2 and ferts and a nice substrate, so I'm sure you've struck a balance. How long has the tank been setup?

Can't wait to see what color this is... My guess is white.. but who knows?

The tank is running for 8 months.
If you have any advice regarding CO2+ferts+lights please let me know.
I have also a couple of water hyacint plants which for some reason are not doing well.

The future flower looks white to me.

new photos!

the tank looks healthy to me, i wouldn't touch anything, just leave it as it is. You arn't encountering any algae problems are you?

BTW, well done with the flower.

no algae so far.
I also have an army of algae eaters: nerite, oto, molly, red cherry shrimp.

It’s opening time!

how can I attach all the photos?
I resized and compress them so they have less than 100KB, but I cannot attach more than one photo to a single post.

Wow, that is absolutely awesome, sounds like your balance is pretty perfect in there, keep up the good work.

Darius3, can you imbed the images so we can see them on the posts. I knew it! White with yellow center. Just stunning...

You are sooooo going to do a write up for the Plant index on this species. Excellent job! :good: This needs to be seen. Doesn't happen often. Going to pin the thread right now...
