Ok so maybe he's not "pregnant" per say... but he is holding eggs in his mouth! How cool is it that this species makes the boy do all the work?! :lol: I want to be a female betta falx!! Anyways, if you haven't read the post in Bettas & Gouramis, I'm completely unprepared for this, but here he is anyway. Proud pappa-to-be!! :wub:

And the best shot - Compare him with the other male on the right, see the huge difference in jowls? My preggy has a double chin!! :rofl: And look at the female in the middle, she's trying to act like she had nothing to do with it.... :rolleyes:

I can't believe how fast they got this going! It is possible that they may replace the guppie as the "rabbits" of the fish world. :D They look great too. Didn't take them too long to settle in did it?

that is the coolest thing ive seen..his chubby face is so cute!
but i have a question for you..do you know anything about there breeding habits and how long it takes the eggs to hatch, or what happens? and if the fry survive what are your plans for them? :wub:
 
How exciting! Do you know how many eggs he could be holding and how long he'll hold for?
 
Ok let me try to answer all the questions. :p


Breeding habits - The female pesters the male until he finally gives in... :lol: Then they spawn, with the female picking up the eggs and spitting them to the male, where he gathers them until he's full.

How long he'll hold - I've read 5-10 days, and I've also read 12-14 days. :unsure:

How many fry - 20 to 100 :crazy:

What am I going to do with the babies?! :rolleyes: I have no idea!! This wasn't exactly planned... I'll probably try to give some to the lfs, and then... brace yourself FF!

.... I may try shipping! :thumbs: If they breed as often as this, I'm going to have way too many to know what to do with.. and you guys will get first dibs on kiddos. Hope y'all are interested. :wub:
 
I'll definitely take some off your hands if you're willing to ship :nod: The parents are gorgeous, I'm sure the fry will be too. Congrats, mom-to-be ;) :)
 
Awwww!!!!! Bettas pretending to be man fish!!! I mean cichlids...I mean...ummm...wait a minute, I think there are 8 bettas here too.... :unsure:

-she learns to ship bettas and then moves onto my cichlids, so I never need to learn-
