I just got two betta fish at a college event. We were given bowls to decorate and keep them in. However, they seem rather small so I am thinking of getting them a bigger tank this weekend.

Any tips/advice you have for me would be great!

Thanks!

Those bowls are too small and by the look of it, they are also unfiltered and unheated. I strongly suggest you read up the basic care requirements for these fish. Whoever organised this needs a serious talking to. Please dont take this as im moaning at you, im not, just research the fish and requirements please.

They are two boys also, if you didnt know!

Thanks for the tips! I am going out this weekend to get bigger tanks and nicer necessities for these little guys. I really like them and want them happy. Trust me, this is a 24 hour- temporary home!

My one friend, a biology major, informed me after I named the one Kim that he was a boy. Oh well. I still like the name Kim for him :)

Okay as long as you know that they are boys :good:

Im glad you are going to find them a bigger accomodation. Its quite often that these boys spend their life in bowls like that, unhappyily might I add until something kills them off. Just a quick mention, are you aware they cant go in a tank together?

2 gal or more heated and preferably filtered (less waterchanges that way-they NEED heat tho-tropical fish).
they are both cuties! you will see that with an increase in tank-space how interactive and personable they are. bettas are wonderful fish!
thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum!!!
cheers

I did know they can't be in a tank together. That's why I knew, at the very least, to get two small bowls for the time being. :)

Okay cool. I like the names btw. Do you plan to keep them long-term? As said above, bettas are wondeful fish, since I started fish-keeping I have always had at least one.

Good luck with them, and pardon my manners, I didnt even welcome you to the forum!

:hi: :mama: :kana:  :drinks: :friends: :shout: :yahoo: :hi:

I definitely plan to keep them long term! I will have to take them on a move 2 hours away in December once I graduate, but other then that they have a permanent home with me!
