there is a chance i may be getting a new set up but some fish included are 14 inches long. whats the best way to transport fish of this size?
the fish will need to travel about 30 minutes max back to my house as they are quite local

Probably using a clean suitable container with a lid. For 30 minutes you shouldn't need aeration.
Depending on the fish you might fish bags big enough but a larger fish can break them reasonably easily if they want to. Just be sure to use a new and washed container that hasn't been used for chemicals etc.

so something like a large plastic storage box or similar should be fine then. its more like 20 mins to be honest but with traffic etc 10 minutes can soon be lost.

You can buy large plastic storage crates with lids cheaply under £10, I have an assortment I use for transporting fish, much safer than bags. Huge crates also come in handy as emergency hospital/prison/quarantine tanks and small ones make good cheap fry tanks.

Carefully haha
In a storage box, big bucket or a big polystyrene box will probably be the best.

go to a good lfs, every time ive been to a maidenhead aquatics they have given me poly boxes free i just told them i would return them after use apart from once where i keeped it cos it was better than a lot of tanks!!!

go to an LFS that sell koi they will have large strong bags made for the job my LFS sells huge koi 2'+ and they put them in bags

id go poly box every time go to maiden head imo for big fish i dont trust bags to much chance of biting or dorsal fins is too worrying for me

trust me lol

i tryed koi bags for my clown knife when i got him (no longer have him) trying to transfer a 14inch knife fish into another bag in the back of a car is not a fun thing

the fish are colombian cat sharks so i think a poly box would suit best, cheers guys :good:

This is a storage box you can pick up from Staples and the like. Dead cheap too. It also has an interlocking lid. I use this just for fish transport and for holding fish when I do a complete tank cleanout.

For a 30 minute transport I would simply use a water change bucket full of clean aquarium water. After the move, use a typical drip acclimation to ready your fish for the new water.
