Hey,
yesterday I got 2 female platys which look pregnant?!

Here is a picture (not good quality as the platys are fast!)
Both females are similar in size.

Could you tell me if they are pregnant and if so how far until fry are due?!

Thank you! :good:

Hello!

The picture is blurry (as you say they are fast) but she definitely looks pregnant to me, I'd say less than a week, maybe a week tops and she should have the babies,... I'm no expert, and it is hard to see the pic, but like I said she definitely looks pregnant! Pretty far along too ^^
Hope I helped!

Thank you for your comment...i hope she sucessfully has her babies as it will be my first experience with fry and i will be looking foward to it!!

Thank you again and any advise on looking after pregnant platys and her fry will be much appreciated! :good:

How should I know when to put the platy into the breeding box and when it is about to drop?!

And here is another clearer picture!

This picture is a little better I would "guess" and this is only a guess, put I Would believe she is pregnant,I use to have a breeding pair of Red wagtail platys which is what you have there.I Wouldn't say she is Heavily pregnant. Is there any way you could take a better picture that would help.

That platy seems well fed to me. Have a look at my molly thread, pinned at the top of this section. I took lots of pictures and made some commentary about what I look for. I really do not see that fish squaring off at all although it is obviously heavy.

Thank u for your comments! I looked on your thread old man 47, It was very clear and i understood it well. I will look out for other signs like squaring off and becoming unsocial.

I have a male and two female mollies in my tank which i wish to breed so your thread has definitly became very handy to me!

Thanks again! :good:

Hi again.... :good:

one of the platys has really squared off... therefore i assume is pregnant! the other one has not therefore was just probably overfed!

She has squared off these past couple of days and today developed a white ball shape on her buisness end!! I read one of the pinned topics and it says that they develop this when they are about to give birth. The only thing she hasnt done is becoming unsocial.

So since she has developed the white ball like shape, can anyone tell me how long it will be until she has her fry!!

sorry no pics

Thanks :good:

Here is some pics.....! :good:

Thats brilliant.... has the time come that I will have some fry!! lol :hyper:

Thanks old man! :good:

talk about stress. first she gets traveled into a new tank, then placed into a box. i say take her out and let her have the fry in the open.

Where did that come from Omega? Nobody here is talking about one of those breeding traps that I have noticed.

I got the platy a month ago now i went back on my topic to give an update, so she is not stressed from traveling!!

She still hasnt dropped and is still acting the same!! When she does have her fry I will have to put her in the trap because I have angelfish and they will eat the fry!! This is temporary until i get a larger tank and i will use the tank i am using now for fry.

thanks :good:

Does the white ball on their buisness end mean they will give birth soon cause shes had it about a week now and she hasnt had her fry?! :good:
