Of course, I am thinking the worst - ammonia poisoning, or something along those lines. He had a couple of red spots on the fins and on his face, but all of a sudden now there are vivid red streaks on a couple of fins, particularly the anal fin, and a streak just right of his eye. I really wish this just looked like a spontaneous color change, but....it's suspicious. Ideas of what it is, or maybe how to treat whatever it is? He is in a one gallon, unfiltered, unheated until I get him a tank and gets 100% changes once every two days.

Before, if you can tell... http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4304/202220202.jpg
and after... http://img227.imageshack.us/i/0505101515a.jpg/

I can't see the second photo for some reason (well it's blocked at work), so I'm guessing.

Septecemia maybe?

Ammonia poisoning? I sugegst you do 100% water change daily.

The tanks to small for a betta.
Also unfiltered tanks and no heater can lead to stress, and desease.

Check your water stats.

It sounds like septicemia to me.
Make sure there no signs of flicking and rubbing as red spots can also be a sign of parasites, aswell as septicemia.

Water change.
Bacterial med.

I attached the picture to this post, hopefully that works.
Is ammonia poisoning even treatable? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I cannot find out much about it.

:/ I would love to have a five-gallon for him like I have recently set up for my other betta (found the tank in my basement!) but that has to wait a couple weeks for me to have enough money. He is not flicking or rubbing; the streaks are his only symptom, in fact...so I am skeptic about rushing to medication. If this is definitely septicemia, would Maracyn-Two work?

Are they definately streaks as opposed to his colouration?

He had some red spots, as well as half of his face being red, but then practically overnight he developed the bright red stripes...so, I mean, it COULD be a spontaneous coloration, but I didn't really think it could happen over less than two days like that! That's what I want it to be!
