I've only just put cuc in so tank is still infantile.

Crystal clear though with stable readings throughout build and cycle.

Check the thread 'From the bay to the reef', there's pics in there and hopefully some useful info too!

I would put the carbon and rowa in different weirs. Mine was set-up:

C1 skimmer
c2 heater
c3 live rock rubble and rowa on a hook
c4 return pump I didn't run carbon but this is where i would put it on a hook

Water cahnge: aim for 25% a week :good:

If you want to see a boyu from set-up have a read of my journel

Very interesting Seffie, and sound like you and your sister had fun along the way.Have you got an image you can show me off your tank now?
Regarding the Rowaphos did you use the sponge type or granuals and used a pair of tights?(Not the 2 legs)lol
Getting 10kg of live rock tomorrow as when i bought tank only had about 5 kg so want to build that up to 15kg, do a water change and then i will post an image of my tank.
What i have noticed on a piece of rock and i will try and take photo of it is like a very small black feathery like flower/coral but if you move in front of it it shoots back into the rock, amazing to watch. Also there is a snail like creature in the tank but does not have a shell. There are two holes on its back and camaflages very well with the live rock.So i will take images of these and post them asap and if any marine lovers can identify them for me i would be very grateful.

Also just noticed on youtube regarding the Boyu WG-308 skimmer and the 310 is that know one is using the foam sponge that comes with it.Would you say thats the norm?

I sold my tank some time ago to Youngfisher :good:

I use the rowa that comes in granules, there is a net that comes in the tub :good:

Re skimmer and sponge - do you mean the black carbon sponge the skimmer sits on when you first get the tank, if so remove it :good:

Look forward to seeing your photos

Going to put images on tomorrow.
Bought 10kg of live rock today, done a 25ltr water change,10 out the back(was black) and 15 out the front.
Sealed skimmer and is a lot easier to control. The sponge i meant is what comes with the skimmer that goes round the outlet pipe.Ive left mine off for now cus like i say on youtube none of the videos have them on.Also cleaned out the hood and fans today and now my moonlight led`s work.Yea...
There`s only 2 hermit crabs in my tank so tomorrow or weekend i am going to get 3 more hermits, turbo snails and cleaner shrimp.
Then my wallet is telling me to let it all settle for a bit. What i am interested in is "THE BOOK" on coral. What is it called? As why i am waiting would like to do some reading up!

So Do you have a tank now seffie and how come you sold the other one?Does your sister still have her tank?

Hi there,

in exactly the same boat as me, I got a 2nd hand 550 with the same skimmer.

The skimmer is fiddly and I've only just put in cuc, so my skimmer isnt really pulling out too much junk.
The cup needs to stand quite far out of the water, almost to the point where the top suction cup isnt doing anything. Just adjust the clip to make it sit high up.

For emptying the cup I use one finger to push the body against the chamber wall and then gently twist the cup. It's the only way I find it comes out goes in without too much force.

It is the uv unit, mine is on the floor at the mo, so anyone else with info on where the box needs to be placed will be educating me also!
Hi There
Try sealing your skimmer with silicon tank sealent,£3.99 ,i have and it makes it a lot more secure.Do you use the foam filter with your skimmer or not cus like i said in other post on youtube, the videos that are showing the set up of the 308 and 310 dont have them on!Also when emptying the cup on the skimmer i just fold a couple of pieces of kitchen roll and slide it into the cup to soak up any skimate(is that whats its called?mines australian)Saves disturbing anything.

Got my tank and stand off ebay last weekend.£200 i paid which i thought wasn`t bad.Came with 2 clowns,2 four striped damsels and a blue tang plus 2 hermits and a rock like slug plus around 4 kilos of live rock and all the mature water.3 butts, salt ect...Gonna put a couple of images on tomorrow plus tomorrow or weekend get more cuc.

So i should sell the tang then?

Also feeding the fish:Is once a day enough? If so when to feed?Morning, afternoon or evening-please advise

Also lighting:I`ve been putting my tank lights on at 6pm untill 8.30-9pm then moonlight led`s for 1 hour.Is this ok-please advise

The lighting i have on the tank is what i think is what comes standard with the tank, which is 2 lamps on each lamp there is 1 white and 1 blue bar. When i come to buy coral are these lamps good to use for fish and coral or do i need to change them?

Regards
