I have atm Roma 240 tank which comes with 2x40W T8 light unit giving ~1,5W/Gallon(UK)with eficiency ~77lum/watt (total around 6000-6200lumen)
assuming 2W/gal border line I want to achieve that places me ~26W T8 short = ~2000lum

Anybody used LED tape or simmilar as additional light source?
with 1000lumen per meter at reasonable price they are quite tempting especialy taking into consideration that can be installed by simple glueing to existing lighting module, and that they are splashproof.

so 2x 1m strips of LEDs probably would give me that required light output while avoiding any major modifications to tank hood

Question is also would plants accept such light

In my 60 litre I have a strip of 24 leds glued to the back, just under the waterline. This is the only light source I have. There are plants in there and they are doing well. As you are using these aswell as your normal lights I don't see this being a problem.

Should be fine.

But, if you are trying to add more lights to get over 2WPG to just add Co2 or dose Macro ferts, then you don't need to. You can inject pressurized Co2 and add Macro ferts with your current light source. I do the same on my 55 gallon which has 1.6 WPG.
