By me lets say you find a really nice betta, the cheapest you pay for one is $5 US dollars, so if you happen to find a nice healthy betta with good coloring, that's a great price!

each of my guys were free! one was rescued from a vase at a wedding (they had bettas as centerpieces 
...cute idea, but THEN what do you do with all those fish? especially as no one was taking them home!
my other 2 were so incredibly small at a big chain store, that they couldnt eat the pellets-i talked to the manager and they gave them to me.
others were received from people who couldn't/ didnt want to care for them any longer.
the money for all the set ups i have is another story.
i refuse to pay money for a betta when there are so many out there that need good homes and can be gotten for free from folks who simply dont want them any longer.
