I have 3 green spotted puffer fish and a pleco. Over the last 2 days, 2 puffers and the pleco have died. My last puffer is covered in some sort of goop. The best wait to describe it is it looks like he is covered in spider webs. He looks like an old man with grey hair. All 3 dead fish have been covered with the same stuff when I found them floating at the top of the tank. What could this possibly be? HELP!

this is called fungas infectoin or "Ick"

it's caused by bad qater quailty?

Ph / Ammonia / nitrates level please?

a perxson should help you after you tell us when yo last did a water change etc.

I Dno know what medicane hlpes Fungas infection.

but i do know it kills your fish fast.

Fungus and Ich are 2 different things. (Ich is a shortened form of the scientific name for whitespot)

It sounds like the original poster either has a fungal infection, slime disease or maybe even columnaris - pics would help.

Also - water stats for ammonia, nitrIte and nitrate please, what other fish are in the tank, tank size, how long set up.

I haven't tested the levels of the tank yet. It is a 50 gallon tank, and I have had it up and running for over 2 years. I only had the three puffer fish and one pleco, but 2 puffers and the pleco have now died over the last 3 days. I did my last water change about a month ago. I did however add some live plants (banana plants, lucky bamboo, and japanese moss balls) about a week ago, and that seems to be right around the time that all of this started to happen... could this be where the fungus came from? How do I get rid of this fungus or ich?

What country do you live in?

And a Water change is required every two weeks at the most. :good:

puffer.jpgI have attached a picture (as clear as I could get my iphone to take) of the sole survivor about 3 hours ago.

I live in Texas. I normally do frequent water changes, but have been extremely busy with Christmas over the past few weeks. That's what I was getting ready to do when I discovered all this stuff this morning! :(

i think Medx

is suppose t obe good?

i think wilder may help you further more.

sorry im not realy good at this :S

similar thing happant to me, when i was starting my tank in uk.. after loosing some fish, i change 50% water everyday for week then 3 times a week.... but all fungy infacted fish is died. (about 30%)

good luck.

Can't see very clearly but it doen't look good, especially if you've lost the other fish already.

Do a test on the water stats (I find this is usually the best place to start for any problem) Personally I'd do another water change and maybe remove the new plants as it sounds likely this brought in disease.

Were the new plants in a tank at the place you got them? I know it will not help now but I always quarentine any plants kept in with fish or on a centralised system as they can carry in disease. (just in a bucket - I change the water every couple of days using aquarium water from one of my tanks and a dash of esha 2000)
