plec is a sailfin gibbicep. beautiful fish...
cichlid looks stessed and young, iam thinking along the lines of AEQUIDENS

Thanks nelly,

Yes I agree about the cichlid, he seems to have settled down abit more this morning, swimming around and eating. Do you think he /she will colour up more, I find myself falling in love with him, but it's a big no no as to putting him in with my exsisting community group. He obviously loves the plec as he stays quite close to him. I can't wait now to collect the new tank and get it cleaned and set up.

I was hoping for a few more replys, everybody must be out xmas shopping. I think Nelly could be spot on saying he's very young, I'm doing nightly cleans in the tank, boy do plec's make a mess, I'm glad I left the tank bare.

Oh I know plecs are mucky devils my too can poop 4ft long lol. I should be able to take him I have 2 tanks I could put him in, but if he doesnt get on well in either of those I would let Stevem have him for his BIIIIIIIIGGGGGG tank. I am just googling now to see if I can positivly id him, also put a link to this thread in the cichlid section, someone there may know.

He does look a little like a yellow acara, which would be great because then he would fit in perfect.

Just googled Aequidens, bit confused it says they are good community fish? This one had killed all bar the plec in the tank pictured. Also is it true they will grow up to 9cm.

OK thanks, I wont be able to reply after 5pm, but will back on very early tom morning. Off to collect hubby and then clean tank again. Oh yes, still decorating. Oh yes I nearly forgot, I may not be able to come friday now as I am needing to get a doctors appointment, so I will let you know. Hopefully I may have recovered by then.

Aequidens is a pretty large and confusing family with a lot of variety within it. To complicate it further its been subdivided and changed recently with new families like Krobia etc coming out of it but a lot of people will still call them Aequidens.

http://www.lem.net/alf/aeq.htm <------- that is an awesome site to ID acaras. Personaly though I dont think this is an Aequidens the head shape seems a bit wrong I would be tempted to go for more of a Central American species. But really dont know

I think they actually mean cichlid comunity rather than the usual community. (i get confused with that one too lol)

I think the cichlid is Aequidens hoehnei, if you need me to rehome them for you i can take them no prob.

If you cant make Friday then and if Steve can collect sooner then I would say let them go to Steve. I would like whats best for the fish at the end of the day.
