ive just gt a new tank and i gt the ex700 with the tank, i dnt no much about this so cud some1 help EXflow.gif

Welcome to the forum Seanec.
The thin white pad, item 5 in your diagram, may not be possible to clean properly. Everything else in that picture, plus the impeller, the well the impeller sits in and the filter case get cleaned in used tank water and placed back into the filter.

I have a similar filter, the ttex600.. when it comes round to me cleaning it, i take all of the baskets out, squeeze all of the sponges in OLD TANK WATER, and then dip in the ceramic media and bioballs and have a swirl around with thouse.. then i tip all of the water out of the filter, put all of the baskets back in and ta da! I dont bother with the white floss, i find although it polishes the water, it restricts the flow, sometimes i will use it by putting it in just after i have cleaned the filter, and the very next day take it out and throw away.

thanks
Adam

EDIT: I have found its rarely you need to clean the impeller, about every 3x you clean the filter really, so if you do clean the filter every 2 weeks, do the impeller every 6.

thanks 4 all your help

adandrews, what difference do you find to the water quality without the filter floss? my flow rate seems a lot slower then when I first had the filter up and running, replaced the floss and still it seems quite poo u recon I should just not bother with it?

i was goin 2 ask tht myself lol, my flow on ex700 is poo it flows slow as f*ck, bt ive never had 1 b4 gt mine with the fish tank, ive looked on youtube n it shows coming out very fast so why do mine come out slow?

if you dont mind that you are loosing flow, then for gods sakes use the floss, it does "polish" the water, as it trappes the finest of particles. In my case, a high tech planted tank, flow is needed heavily, therfore i cannot just through away the flow by using floss.

do i need to cut the hoses dwn to the right lenth? to make it faster?

shorter hoses do stop reduction in flow yes, although, if you are only setting the tank up now for a preliminary type of thing, and you will be moving it to somewhere else, bare in mind that you may need longer hoses in the future.

iam keeping it were it is, im not moving it,

if i shorten them will tht make it flow faster?

yes :good: new tubing is fairly inexpensive so even if you wanted to move it in the future just go out and buy new tubing :) if you can left the filter highed it will also help speed up your flow, put it on a box or something if you can

its under my tank like every1 else dos tht nt matter?

so i cut the tubes 2 size ?

then it gos faster

thanks 4 helping me on this, its all new to me as i gt the filter with the tank on ebay so i dnt no how 2 use it. If theres anything else u no about this cud u let me no

thanks again
