Hi,

I have a 60L tank with 2 oranda's, 1 black moor and 3 chinese sucking loaches. All the fish get on perfectly, the tank has now been setup for around 6 months. However, since more or less day one; 1 oranda and 1 black moor has had small white spots on only their gills, can anyone tell me what this is please? I really dont think its a disease as they seem like they are okay. Its been this way for about 5 months.

Cheers,
Danny

If the fish do not seem ill or irritated in any way I would suggest that they are just male fish. Male goldfish get small while dots on their gill plates and down the front of their pectoral fins when they are sexually mature. If they have spots anywhere else, seem irritated, swim eratically or show any other sign of being unwell they probably have white spot.

This is correct. The spots are called tubercles. They can appear during spawning season usually.

I have to point out that the tank is very overstocked, but that's another mater :(

I have attached a picture of my Oranda from a few months ago showing the tubicles on his gill and pectoral fin, do yours look similar?
