I got 4 of them. The blue male died in the bag. :( :-( I have three left. They are under 3 inches, the biggest one is a little over 3. They look awful from the shipping, they're being medicated but they're eating like hogs and doing great. The dude wasn't sure if they were 100% female or not. How big do they get before you can be sure? The biggest one has alot more blue and it's much darker than the other two. Any ideas? :/

This is a smaller one,the one above is the biggest one. The blue on this one is false, merely a camera flash reflection. To the naked eye it's very drab. lol

Hmmmm...not sure if either of those are males or not....kinda need to be able to see the full fins...and they don't have them right now :(

....but if it makes you feel any better....I have only EVER bought one male....out of 12 that I have owned. Guess how many females I actually ended up with? 4. Bought one male and ended up with 8. As for sexing them, The babies that I have show signs of sex at 1.5".....pointy dorsal on male, round on female....and will usually start to show color right away from that point if they are in the right environment (somewhere to dominate). I sorry about the lost one.....and happy to hear they are eating....they definitely are pigs :p

Good luck Heather!

:edit: after looking a little closer, the second one DOES look to be male....even if the color is false, it is still there. Blues do turn blacky brown under stress, which will cover the color....but the thing that makes me think it is a male is his tight tummy! :p

Thanks FM!! I was hoping at least ONE of them might be a male in disguise. I really can't tell on the fins right now, they are ragged and all crapped up. The dude I got them from did a VERY bad job shipping them, they are 3 inches apiece and he had 3 crammed in one bag. :grr: :-( The poor blue male croaked. I was very p*ssed. They're starting to get more bold, when I walk up to the tank they approach me now. Hopefully they'll be allright and I'll get me a purty blue boy like Sammy. :)

Sounds like he did an awful, terrible job at shipping them, no offense intended. They look like they've been to hell and back, poor little dears  Give them a few days and there will be no question about the sex of the remaining three.

Gosh, I feel so bad for those poor fish!!! :-(

I know you will perk them back up soon, and they sure are pretty!!!

Heather,

Hope they are perking up, The second pic definitely has the potential to be male. That is one of the ways a breeder taught me to test (taking pics with flash), because even if the fish is discolored due to stress you can't disguise those pigments. Good luck with them!

Well....? How are they settling in,Heather? Pics, pics, pics!!!! c'mon!

 They are still pretty raggedy looking but the fungus went away FINALLY. Their bellies aren't sunken anymore, and they are acting normal chasing each other around. :) I'll snap a few when I get the greenish tint from the meds out of the water. It's uckee looking right now. :*) :)

Okay. Fine. Better hurry though.....many people will account for my lack of patience.....
