Tempted to say C. sodalis but just doesnt seem quite right

More than likely, C. agassizii. Could be any one of a dozen spotted Corys, including C. ambiacus. If you don't know where the fish was collected, you can argue about the ID, forever - so - have at it. lol. - Frank
