I am back, and so is a new Betta :)

Introducing Hector, my new Betta (Delta tail), that I bought on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 from the only Petco where I live. After Draco died in May, I was saddened, and although I looked at the pitiful Bettas at Walmart (do not even get me started about them), I just could not buy another Betta. Finally, when I went to Petco to pick up aquarium supplies, I decided to look at their Bettas, and after browsing two shelves of okay looking Bettas, I found this unique colored guy on the third shelf. His color was one thing, but compared to the rest of the Bettas, he had really good form, his fins were nice, and even though store Bettas sometimes loose their color due to shelf-stress, he looked pretty good, and calm. When I brought him home his colors automatically picked up and he loves his 2.5 aquarium. He was very curious about his new home; he looked at everything including the gravel :) and just last night I found him trying to chase a bubble that was caught in the current inside of the container I use to cover the opening of the filter where the water comes out in a strong current. He is very active and healthy and I am glad I can give him such a nice home.

I need some help on identifying his colors. I know that he has some marbling on him, and red lips (of which I think is really cool), and his body and tail seem to have a metallic sheen to it. I think he might be an alien color.

The funny thing is that I had some trouble naming him because any name I tried just did not seem to fit him because of his color.

I hope I did not type your eyes off, I am just really excited about him!

I will try to get some better pics of him later. He moves too fast and I am too slow with taking pictures lol.

He's a nice boy :good:

I think he is marble, possibly with cellophane fins, but hard to tell from that one photo.

agreed hes not aleain. defo cellophane fins. marble is spot on. id say hes a Delta tail (maybe hlaf moon-you have a flare pic?) cellophane marble.
lovely fish

Thanks :)

I have a video, kind of grainy but not too bad. With this video you will be able to see his true colors, because it's so hard to get a picture of him showing his colors. I will post the video sometime tonight.

I will post the video either tonight or tomorrow sometime as I found a pic I took of him that really shows his color.

He is beautiful, I love marbles and own 4 now, they are great in the way they keep changing all the time :hyper: have fun with Hector and remember to post those pics when his colour does change

Oh cool. I did not know that they changed colors. When do they begin to change colors, or is it random?

Yes it will be quite a random thing but a gradual change that you barely notice on a day to day basis, strange thing is you only really seem to notice it when you look back at photos of the betta a few weeks back and then compare it to the present ones! it can look like you have a completely new betta to the one you originally bought! you will probably find that his face remains unchanged as in it stays white but his body may turn darker to either red or maybe blue who knows??? that's the great thing about marbles :fun:

Cool. Now this may be a stupid question, but only becuase I have never had a marble before. Do they change back to their original color, or no?

wow he is lovely! :D Feather Sword, when a betta begins to change colour they just keep changing over time so no i dont think he'll go back to original colours. My male betta i used to keep wasnt a marble but he was a bright turquoise and weeks later i looked at pictures and he was a solid dark blue and this was just in a non marble, think how much a marble could change its colours!

Okay, cool. This should be exciting, since he has so many colors :)
In fact, I think he may be changing now somewhat. This is so cool.

Thanks everyone for your comments :)
