Seem to be getting quite a lot of different shaped and coloured algae.

Initially I thought that these looked quite good but now they seem to be taking over! especially around some of the corals.

I would welcome any advice on how to reduce them if they are going to be problomatic. I have a jewel algae blenny but would it be a good idea to add any other fish or invertibrates that may help.

Thanks as always for any advice.

The green grass/algae has started to grow through the coral whilst the blue grass is on some rock to the back of the coral. Should I do anything to them?

I am not sure on the wormy things, going to have a look later see if I can find anything.

The frondy algae first picture 2nd post looks like Bryopsis, a nightmare to get rid of, I have some.

A sea hare will eat the shorter bits but the only real way to kill it is to raise magnesium to 1500 until it is dead. I am contemplating doing this myself.

Would that do anything to the corals or fish etc

The white spikes spikes are quite probably spicules...the hard crystalline structures inside most softies to give them rigidity and hold their shape....often evtrude during skin moults on some leathers. These can be needle fine to quite chunky.
As for the bryopsis get in and manually remove as much as ppossible before it starts to spread, and it will...rapidly!!

Ps..forgot to say that the tank looks really well and Is very nicely aqua scaped.

Are you saying the blue/green feather like algae is the bryopsis? or is it the thin long strands?

Yep stef...the soft feathery one is bryopsis, on my tank thread you'll see how badly it infected my system in the early stages and i had a real battle to control it as i couldn't reach most of it to remove it.

I currently have a jewel algae blenny which I introduced to try to keep the algae down.

Does anyone have problems with them chasing and harassing other fish as mine seems to do it a lot? If so is there any way around it or is it a case of simply removing him out of the tank?

Thanks.

Has anybody used an automatic top up system and if so are they difficult and expensive to use? Can they be adjusted to use on any tank?

Thanks.

I was thinking for when I go on holiday. A friend is going to come in to feed but wont be able to top up etc

Are Mandarins difficult to keep?

If so in what way? I know they can be difficult to get feeding but are there other problems as well.

Thanks.

easy for them to top off - just draw a line on the tank and say if it drops below that top up with this (ro water)

Mandarins need a mature tank with at least 90 lbs of live rock as they feed off the creatures that live and breed on the rocks. However it is possible to keep them in smaller tanks as long as you are happy to dedicate some time to a pod culture (very simple). if you set one up now and started feeding your tank you could probably buy one within six months
