my pond in my garden has had clear water, then (as it was warm in belgium for 7 days 30 celcius+) a layer of some sort has covered my pond. i do not know if it is algae due to the lovely weather or maybe a harmfull bacteria.

here is my pond:

and the fish below the thin lyer:

It looks very oily from the picture? try just a drop of washing up liquid to see if it disperses like oil. My dad had a similar thing many years ago, we never found out where it came from. Does the surface have any agditation (fountain or something) this may help get rid.

Only guessing here though.

that looks like somekind of oil on the surface but i can't tell from the pic probably somekind of algea ' can you scoop it out with a big net or something

yeah i tried the net thing and it wont work...also there are fish in the pond so i cant really add dishwashing soap...i think i should leave it for a week and see f it clears. if not ill take the fish out, and put them in my new tank. they are strong fish and will also help in the cycling of my aquarium

Can you please provide a couple more pics of your pond. I am pretty sure I know what is going on with your pond. Please take a couple more pics. One close up if you can.

hi where in belgium are you? we are in limburg and having a similar problem with our pond, but not oily, more of a greeny brown gunky layer has built up on the surface .! ive managed to get rid of most of it with lots of kitchen roll.luckily its only a small pond!! it shows up on the paper as a bitty brown looking stuff so am wondering if its an algae of some sort?
