Hey guys,

I just got a female white molly who i suspect is pregnant but the guy at the LFS said she isnt. Anyway i thought i'd add a few pics out here to get all you guys opinions as you'll seem to be experts :)

I also got a male black sailfin molly and was wondering if the two could mate as she isnt a sailfin.

Thanks in advance :)

May or may not be pregnant.
I can't see a gravid spot in either pic (perhaps due to the angle?)
She looks quite round, but that could just be down to being well fed.

Well there isnt a gravid spot, i can assure you that. She's white all over without any deep gravid spot like markings.

I agree with hughessomefish, she is very heavily pregnant. Gravid spots are not a good indicator in general. Pretty fish!

IMHO I don't look for the Gravid Spot anymore, I usually look for a 'Squared Off' look to the abdomen and a clear sign of the birthing tube showing, works for me........

Be sure to note the date she drops...use it to determine the next possible drop date (4-5 wks out on average). Good luck! :D

This girl drops fry at exactly 6 weeks and this picture was taken the day before a drop. I still can't see a gravid spot on her in the picture but she was definitely getting square.

The fry are hers from a previous drop, she was always gentle with them and I found that I lost none leaving her in the tank.

UPDATE: She delivered 12 fry last night!!! Sadly two didnt make it though. The ones that did are rather big compared to balloon molly fry.
Ive kept them in aseperate temporary container and would like to know when would be a nice time to feed them vaccum dried tubifex worms???
We dont get brine shrimp out here so the only food options are the vaccum dried worms or the crushed dry fish food.

Here's a pic of the fry for you all :)

Finely crushed flake food is ideal for your fry ATM, they can be fed up to 4 times a day if neccessary, well done with the Fry, and good luck with the nursery!

You can feed the crushed flake and nothing else but it won't give the best growth. The freeze dried worms are better than nothing for adding in some protein. I would tease them with a worm or two as soon as they are just a bit too small to eat it. They will have a ball tearing it apart between them and will end up eating a little.

Congradulations on the new fry! Heh my fry are like a bunch of pirahnas! if you drop a brine shrimp in there, it's gone within like three seconds lol

Wow! Its a shame we dont get brine shrimp out here :( the lil things HAVE to survive on crushed fish food

You can't buy brine shrimp anywhere Vandrez. You buy what are called cysts, think of them as eggs, and hatch your own in a bottle of water with some salt added. The instructions are usually printed on the container of cysts. What we call brine shrimp are really artemia if you want to try to find a supplier with a Google search. I just tried one and as I typed it artemia cysts came up as a choice. When I clicked on that, half the listings were people selling the cysts.
