Hi All

Below is a pic of an Endler(?) I purchased today. It is 1 of 3 males. I have housed them in a tank with a male guppy and some young female mollies. They have been going crazy chasing the mollies and trying to mate with them. One of the mollies is about the same size length wise as the endlers so has been caught a few times. From what I have read Endlers and mollies can't produce offspring together, but you have to give the Endlers 10/10 for trying!!! :)

Anyways I want to know if these are true Endlers or guppy hybrids. I always thought that Endlers were famous for their black stripes and spots. However these Endlers have no black colouring whatsoever!! If hybrids, is it true they will be sterile??

Cheers

PS Sorry about pic quality, but I think they are good enough to just make out!

My opinion is that is a hybrid-Helterskelter will confirm i reckon.......

Looks like a hybrid to me. More like either Golden or Blonde type.

Actually Mollies and endlers can produce offspring just like Mollies x Guppies.

Endler x Guppy hybrids are fertile, there was never sterile hybrids between these species.

Their a cross, commonly sold as gold endlers.

Their are a couple of lines of true gold's but nothing like that that i has seen.

This i took at the w-end of a so called endler, which is clearly a guppy.

Thanks for that Butch.

Indeed you are correct. The offspring of the Endler/Mollie would be fertile! It was Platties I was thinking of!!

It's a shame as I really want some true Endlers, but am having an hell of a time finding them!! :(

Got these last night from a local breeder. 01.JPG

Again sorry about the pic quality. Hopefuly your opinions will be that these are true Endlers!! I got 6 pairs for £6, which I thought was a bargain! Before anyone goes on about the male to female ratio... ..I have put them in gender specific tanks.

The one to the left look's like a wild guppy and the one to the right is a black bar endler, these are usualy a cross to be honest but look nice.

If they come from the the same line then their defo a cross

So exactly what do true endlers look like? Or are they that rare?

This is a yellow bottom sword endler i had.

99.99% of ture endler do not show swords, this is called a sword only coz of the colour in the tail.

They have short dorsal fins
with some not loads of colour.

Their is now way to be sure unless you start looking at the shape of the gonopodium under a microscope

That is a nice top sword HelterSkelter. I only keep a colony of unselected wild type but have a tank that were carefully selected to breed on from the wilds. Those are fairly consistent at showing a snake chest pattern with an extended red lower sword or a double sword pattern. As HelterSkelter said, the sword is mostly just a splash of color and does not extend much past the main clear part of the caudal fin. Some of the fish show a nice color in their dorsal as well but not like the huge dorsals that you might see in a guppy or a hybrid. This is a picture of one from that tank who only has the lower sword pattern. In his case, the red sword does extend slightly past the clear caudal which can be seen above the wider part of the colored sword. The last bit where it narrows to the tip does extend past the main caudal.

Here are some pictures of my mixed colony with no particular pattern dominating it.

I was trying to figure out mine too. Someone said Lyretail and Endler mix, but dad is a fancy (Ringo in sig). I am not sure what mom (Lily) was.
