Hi,

My gourmi has had a hole in its side for the last few weeks- it has gradually got deeper (see pics) Does anyone have any idea what woudlo have cuasded this and how i can cure it with UK treatments.

The fish is still eating and swimming as usual so no difference in behaviours.

INo other fish in the task appear to have anything similar??

Thanks
Emma

Interesting one.

I would isolate the poor fish just to ensure it doesnt loose out to food if it starts to feel unwell. Dose a holding tank with melafix according to dosage instructions on the bottle, as this will help to heal the damaged area and prevent infection.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Was there a pimple there before it started to turn into a hole.
Was the area pink or red with a circling of white dead tissue around the edges.

Melafix is a good idea but this is quite a severe ulcer: if it doesn't respond to the Melafix then you may need a vet.

Don't bother with melafix is only good on cuts and wounds, No good on a internal infection.

Hi All,

Thank you for your advice, it's definitly needed.

Have a redtail shark (naughty little sod), however even he is now leaving the Gourmi alone.

Can Mefex go into a mixed tank, rather than an isolated one.

Tank size: 190 litre Juwel
Fish:
5 Clown Loachs (varied in size)
1 Plec (7y old)
2 Gourmi (one holey)
2 Angels
5 Tetra's
2 Corys
1 Redtail shark

No sharp edges or obstructions.

No idea how hole first ocurred.

Your tanks overstocked.
How big are the clown loaches.

I wouldn't bother with the melafix.
You need an internal bacteria med.
