So I have two highfin Platys, one of which is a female and I am new at this... I've read all of the different things I'm supposed to watch for, but I'm wondering if maybe I'm over doing it some.

Please check out the photo and tell me what you think.

thanks!

Welcome to the forum Polley.

The girl in the picture is probably several days from dropping fry. It is hard to tell without a decent focus but that is my impression. You do need to relax and take a look through the stickied thread that 5teady put together. I have a link to it in my signature area that I marked as ready to pop.

5teady took the pcitures off of photobucket. Only the video works now. So that link isn't the best now.
Plus, normally that's what females look like before dropping, (in 5teady's pics.) but not always.

My platy was quite thin, and I thought she had AT LEAST a couple more weeks to go, but she dropped yesterday. Even though her gravid spot only started showing a couple days ago.
This was her before she gave birth:

And how I have 7 fry, soon to be more. :)

So yeah, your platy looks pretty close to birth, but a clearer picture would help immensely.

Good luck! :good:

Alright, well thank you both for your info, umm haha I'm a little embarassed right now because I was so worried about my Platy giving birth, I wasn't paying attention to my Mollys and one of them dropped last night, while I was asleep. I woke up and went to feed them and I found two swimming around. Since then I've found two more.

If 5teady's thread doesn't work any more, mine still does. Unfortunately it does not have the ongoing additions by other forum members to build the added understanding like his does. A link to mine is called Molly progress in my signature area and I was focused on a particular molly that I followed from one fry drop to the next. It is probably not quite as helpful for a platy pregnancy as 5teady's thread was. .

I'm sorry, 5teady's thread does show the pictures, but some of them were removed. Only the first ones though.

Good luck with the molly babies!
