i have 4 rummy nose tetra, and 4 neon tetra...

one of the rummies is swelling ALOT around the stomach... it has been slowly increasing. but there is no scale lifting, so i dont think its dropsy (although im not sure?)

can anyone give me any tips. its been about a week+ that the fish has been like this...

i've attached a photo... hopefully that works.

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What do you feed your fish.
What does it look like when the fish go to the toilet.
Have you been over feeding blood worms.

70 litres
4 rummy tetra, 4 neon tetra (stated above)
all water stats show up fine in tests (and all other fish and shrimp seem very happy and healthy)
i feed tropical fish flakes and those little bug things that look like amoeba, i always forget the name of them.
toilet material looks normal
i have not fed them bloodworms ever... im very careful not to over feed... i give small pinches ... what they can eat in 2 minutes twice daily

also its not clear in the picture but as well as having a fat belling downwards, it also has a fat belly sideways if that makes sense...

any advice on what this might be would be great thank you!

I had something very similar with a Black Neon Tetra. Stomach swollen and obvious stretch marks on the stomach area.

I tried to feed peas in case of poor diet, but it didn't work. My advice is to isolate if you can in a another tank (not always possible - i can't)

There is a Neon susceptible disease for which this is one symptom. I am no expert but it does look similar. Sorry  . I think you guessed the outcome. :(

Sorry didn't notice stocking.
I would try some cooked peas.
You need to improve the fish diet with more frozen foods like daphnia and brime shrimp and veg.

thanks for the tip :) ill give it a go

Good Luck.
If no improvement get back to the board.

still having trouble.... i fed cooked peas yesterday and bloodworm today and my fishie is more bloated and lying at the bottom of the tank... i have separated him into another tank... given him a place to hide... lots of dark, and have added some protozion (for whitespot and fungus) i figured it cant hurt to put a tiny bit just incase it helps some how. im not going to feed him because he seems to just be getting worse... any thoughts anyone on what i can do?

morning update:
my rummynose is looking much healthier, hes swimming upright again, but still lethargic. there is now a full bloodworm at the bottom of the tank which can only mean he either threw it up or passed it whole - i have no idea which is more likely. there is also some dark powdery faeces around the tank...

i will try not feeding again today, see how he goes, then perhaps try a tiny amount of cooked veg. perhaps 2 or 3 of the dark bobbly bits off of a broccoli head.

any thoughts?

fingers crossed for the little guy :(

I don't understand why you added a parasite med.
I would remove it with a water change.
Has the bloating gone down now he fetched the blood worms up.

well i added the parasite med because i know nothing about fish and i thought IF it was a bacterial infection in its gut, or something like that, it might help. i figured the medication is an antibiotic type thing. ill do the water change... although i dont understand - would it harm the fish?

bloating doesnt appear to have gone down very much at all... although there is lots of very very small bits of faeces in the bottom of the tank. last night i noticed that there was a small whitish thing around its anus... im not sure if this was faeces, a discarge, or just its flesh swelling up... it doesnt appear to be there now - but i will keep my eyes peeled for it coming back.

do you think not feeding at all is the right thing to do?

heres 2 pics of the sickly fish....

For internal bacteria infection you need a bacterial med like anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
You have used a parasite med.
Epson salt baths to help draw the fluids out.
Bacterial med.
