There are a few white fuzzy balls on the bottom of my tank. Any idea what they could be? I recently added some floating water wisteria, and the root have been growing like crazy. The white fuzzy things look a little like the fuzzy roots of the wisteria, but in ball form. Do pieces of the root drop off? I've attached some poor-quality pictures. You can see the "fuzzyness" around the white center. In real life, you can see that individual hairs make up this blurry part of the photo. Thanks for any help!

My guess is an old piece of food, that has went a bit moldy..
they often appear as fuzzy balls

have to agree it looks like a mouldy corydora egg...is that a sterbai i see lurking in the distance :)

do you often see them floating around? i reckon its possibly as said above a food pellet thats been missed, and gone mouldy!!

Interesting! This is the first I've seen anything like it. I've never seen underwater mold before, but this didn't strike me as looking like terrestrial mold. The "hairs," or fuzz, were very fine and uniform.

I do have cories! They've never laid eggs before that I've known (had them since Feb.). In fact, I've recently been trying to keep the water and sand really clean because of some fin and tail damage. I'm not sure what's causing it, but they aren't really striking me as being in the breeding mood at the moment. Plus, with all that cleaning I've been doing, I'd be surprised that something laid there that long to get moldy. Perhaps it was an egg stuck somewhere higher before falling to the sand?

Thanks for everyone's input!
