This is my 10G kuhli and puffer setup. I've recently (today) added some crazy pipes so the fish can swim "outside" the tank :D We'll see how it works!

Conrad, the water stays in the pipe because there is no way for air to get in it. since the water level is equal at both ends of the pipe there is no pressure variation. You can do this between tanks, but make sure the water levels are at the same height, or you'll end up with a siphon! :p
 
Actually if you have two level tanks it's not a problem at all connecting the two. It will actually increase the size of your ecosystem (2x10=20). Also, if one tank gets low on water it will suck water from the other tank only to the level where they are even. Great!! The only problem is if you have enough water in the pipe to overflow one of the tanks. Then you have to worry about overflow... in which case you need some sort of spillway. Good times :D
