Hi,

One of my rainbow fish has developed what looks like a red growth on one side of its body and isnt swimming about anywhere near as much as usual? It is fine at feeding time but just stays in one place the rest of the time. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Heres the best picture i could get of it cos its quite difficult to describe

Thanks

Mark

Size of tank in gallons or litries.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Any white edging to the red sore, Dosn't look like it in the pic but just want to check.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Any excess mucas on the skin or gills.

Hi,

Its a 260 litre tank (57 Gallons) with various community fish - Angels, Dennisons, Guppys, Clown Loach, Flying Fox, Glass Catfish amongst a few others. I tested the water with my API liquid test kit which came out fine.

There has been no rubbing or flicking at all, the fish just stays fairly placidly around the top third of the tank. There is a little mucas looking stuff around the sore. I went to the LFS earlier and bought some Melafix treatment so i will see how the fish reacts to the treatment.

Thanks

Mark

If no improvement in say 3 days with the melafix you will need an internal bacteria med.
Good Luck.

Hey Melman did melafix solve the problem? I would like to know because my rainbow fish has the same problem. It looks like a big zit.

Thanks.
