This is the end product of spending WAAAAAY too much time on Aquabid. Eventually you see something you can't pass up. And it's usually in Thailand.

The male is a done deal, and the seller just sent the picture of the female so now the haggling has started again over her. I believe she is a sibling, but I'm not sure since she has materialised out of nowhere, I was told there were no sibling females available. If she's not I might get her anyway as she's probably related and my chances of getting a DT female at all, let alone a related one, are nil.

Should have him (them? :shifty: ) within 2 weeks - next shipment leaves Monday.

I can't wait... the seller sent some extra photos and it apparently doesn't matter which side you're looking at, he's still hot!!!

Wow he's beautiful.

Does Aquabid only shop to certain countries? I must go look, see if they ship to Australia.

Well that's where I'm getting these ones brought to... Aquabid is just an auction site, it's like Ebay, and the individual sellers on there have different policies about where they will and won't send fish. Most of the breeders of tropical fish are based in the USA, and will not ship fish outside their own country, as a) the prices stop it being worthwhile and b) bettas are one of the few tropical fish that will survive two or three days in transit (so most of the other fish that the USA breeders are selling would not make it here alive).

Most of the sellers of bettas are in Thailand and the vast majority of them will ship fish to any country you care to name, provided there is somebody based there (a transhipper) with an import license who will recieve and quarantine the fish (importing them legally) as otherwise they are usually found and destroyed by Customs. The Australian transhipper is in Brisbane, she receives and quarantines fish from the sellers overseas and then sends them round Australia. THe problem is the price... the male is costing me $25US ask price and $25AU import/quarantine fee, the female $15US ask price and $20AU import/quarantine, then $25AU on top of that to have them sent to me. So in short, about $135 AU for a pair off Aquabid. (I think the shipping is about $30 to Sydney, but that's per box, and a box can hold 15 fish.)

AMAZING that looks like a good female as well! not a full on DT but you can see she has the gene so maybe that makes a difference to the genetic difficulties with DT.
Regardless both stunners
