love the discus!

Tank looks good although i would like to say the following fish need to be kept in groups

silver shark, Golden Discus, clown loach, lemon tetra, ray tetra

and keep an eye on the fighter, they don't do so well with angel, gourami, tetra, sharks.. most you fish really

Thanks for the comments, I bought the tank complete with fish 6 weeks ago so the stock in there is what it came with. I got rid of all the plastic plants and put live ones in from Ebay.

I am planning to get more of each but I will probably have to get a bigger tank as the Silver shark is about 8" long and the small one is about 4".

The discus gets on great with the Angel and the other fish and is not timid at all. When I go to feed them he is the first at the top waiting for food. If you put your finger in the tank he comes right over and burshes against you finger.

The Fighter is in my other tank so there is no problem there along with the Golden Chinese Algae eater.

Ideally I want a 6' x 2' x 2' tank before I get anymore Silver sharks.

Nice tank and fish, most of the live plants from eBay seem to be not aquatic though, I cant see to well since the photo is so small (can you post or send me a bigger one?), but at least 5 are non-aquatic and will eventually just start to rot, which you probably don't want in a discus tank .

Also, silver sharks will certainly need a bigger tank, and keeping a Chinese algae eater with an angel and especially discus is really asking for trouble. The CAE will eventually attack them. Get rid of the CAE (give it to an LFS).

You will likely also need more discus, angelfish are OK on thier own but keeping single discus usually results in them eventually wasting away. Until you have the bigger tank, you shouldn't try to fit more discus in there though, especially with big skittish silver sharks.

Trigons are nice (I also have a 190)and it will look very nice when established with true aquatic plants, but whoever gave you those fish clearly knew nothing about them.

If you cant get that bigger tank within the next few months, you should also lose the silver sharks. Same goes for the plecs, they will need something bigger within a year, assuming your feeding them right and not starving them (so many people just leave them to eat algae and wonder why they die).
If the fighter gets on fine with the other fish, then leave him .

Get rid of the discus and the CAE, remove the non-aquatic plants and boost up the number of the tetras and it will be great .

I am going to be honest with you, it seems you have some compatibility issues. Discus can be quite finicky, and need to be kept in groups. Big fast moving fish (like Balas) will mostly out compete the Discus for foods (which Discus need a lot of in order to grow.) They can get latched onto by the CAEs (although that's been said) and they need large water changes done at least twice a week. Also, that Discus can't be 5 inches Looks around 3 or 3.5, probably still a juvenile. It has good color though and good shape, so take good care of it!


Other then that though the tanks is looking really nice. Seems you have some non aquatic plants in there (not sure if that has been said.) Try to refrain from buying plants from ebay, as sometimes they will mix in non aquatic plants. Normally a good rule is, if it can stand up straight while out of the tanks (aside from a few) then it is probably non aquatic.

I will post a new up to date larger pic for you to have a look. The plants came from 2 sources, most of them from a trader of Ebay and the others from the Local Universal Waterlife.

The plants seem to be thriving well and constantly need prunning and thinning out.

The CAE and the Fighter are in my other tank (clearseal B shaped 130 litre) so there wont be a problem there.

I am looking at getting either a 5 x 2 x 2 or a 6 x 2 x 2 tank but that will not be for a couple of months yet. I have 4 different types of food, quick dropping algea waffers, flake, frozen and pellets, hopefully I have covered all my options.

I don't want to add anymore fish into the Trigon until I can get the bigger tank. I will probably move the discus, angel and silver sharks to the new tank and get get some more discus/ silver shark in the new tank.

Then I can get more tetras etc for the Trigon.

Do you think it sounds like a plan

This discus seems to be the exception to the rule, when I put food in for instance he is always the first there to get his share. Its even funnier when I feed the blood worms as he is first there followed by the angel fish, he eats his fill then goes after the silver shark and takes the food from his mouth.

At the moment I am changing the water once a week, but will start a second water change midweek.

I think the green/white variated plant is probably non aquatic. I got this from the local Universal Waterlife. I will some more pics on this weekend of the tank, the only problem is the 100k limit on uploads in a single post.

You have African cichlids in there too?!

No offence mate, but it's almost as if someone purposely stocked your tank with the most incompatible fish they could find .

If it were me I would give all the fish to the LFS for credit and restock the tank with species actually suited to the tank .

I bought the tank stocked. it had a couple of plastic plants which have now one and I have replanted it. The fish might be incompatible but they all get along fine with no problems and no deaths. They are all perfectly healthy.

I will be doing some moving of the fish around when I can get some more tanks.

The African cichlid is only in temp, I am looking after it due to an emergency for a friend who had a leaking tank. He isgetting along fine with the occupants.
