i just bought a cheap Jungle CO2 system and was wondering when i should install it. i have no fertilizers going right now but and am wondering if the co2 will still be effective as my tank (30 gal octagon) has only been running over a week. also wondering about anyone else's experience using a similar co2 system before i open it and drop it into my tank.

Co2 will always be a good addition to any planted tank, no matter how intense the lighting :]

okay i will get some pics up today of the system. any ideas from anyone on the tablets though?

okay so here are some shots of the box of the jungle co2 system. it comes with 16 co2 tablets and recommends 4 tablets a week. ive never used this before so im wondering if i should just return it and do the DIY method? $30 US, plus future tablet purchases.. anyones thought?

hope they got attached right..

Pics are way too small to make out details, but IMO tablet based systems aren't great - talk about uncontrollable fluctuating CO2 livels, stick with DIY or nothing for now, and save the money towards a cheap pressurised regulator from eBay, and use cheap welding CO2 bottles or a fire extinguisher as the CO2 source :).

sorry for small picks. i emailed them from my blackberry storm and didnt know they'd be so small.

this may be a stupid question but what are the consequences of the co2 levels fluctuating and how serious is it? i imagine too much will deprive the fish of oxygen, however i am wondering if the tablets which the box says produce 350 cc of co2 could be harmful..?

also, the collection container for the co2 is just a plastic box with a small hose and plug to retain/deplete excess co2. it is bottomless and i am wondering if this is effective at all for distributing the gas around the tank.

thanks

fluctuating CO2 triggers algae.
It is possible to have a CO2 and oxygen rich water at the same time. Although it is hard to overdose CO2. You should aim for 30ppm, using a drop checker 9see my signature for guide).
