Hi everyone,

I am not sure what is wrong with my Gourmi.. He is a powder blue male and has been healthy since I got him, however I was just feeding the fish and noticed that his colour is off and he has this weird looking thing on his head.. It almost looks like someone took a bite out of his head.

and thoughts?

Thanks

What are your water stats?

And, is the fish in any stress at all?

I had a lot of problems with gourami's in the past with holes in the head, side of body, all different places.

It is said to be because of poor breeding that the quality of gourami's has declined over the last few years with lots of bumps, lumps and holes etc simply appearing overnight.

The best thing I can suggest is to isolate the fish to a smaller tank and treat with melafix as directed on the bottle.

Hope this helps

Andy :good:

Did it start of as a pimple that ulcerated into a hole.

I honestly dont know how it started. I saw him hanging out in the plants and wondered why he wasnt coming up. He is one of the first fish I got and has never had issues before. I named him finny as he only had one fin when I got him.. It hasnt grown back but he seemed to do well without it.

I keep running my finger along the tank to ask him to come up which normally he does but the past few days he has been hiding.. So last night I tried to get a good look at him to see what the trouble was and he had this nasty mark on his head.. I did look up hole in the head and it kinda looks like that.. he has these weird black dots on him as well now.. Just around his head area.. All the other fish in that tank seem fine. *shrugs*

I get my water tested once a week at the local fish store and they said it was fine on sunday.. However I read on another thread not to trust the water testing at the store so my hubby and I are looking at the different kind of testing kits they have.. I just havent had a chance to pick it up yet..

The only tank I have to keep him secluded is a betta tank or so called betta tank.. its this little tiny box really about the size of a shoe box.. just higher! I dont think he will be happy in there as there is no filter nor heat.. However if worst comes to worst I will get him in there asap..

I have primafix and anti fungal meds.. Would either of those work or does it have to be melafix?

I dont think he is under any stress.. The tank is pretty calm.. There are a few tetra's in there some zebra danio's and mollies and platy's.. Nothing has changed in the tank at all.. We havent moved any of the decorations.. we clean the tank once a week and change 20% of the water so I cant see him being stressed out over anything!

I just dont know.. I dont want to loose him and I dont want the rest of the fish to get sick either.. Whoever said keeping fish was easy is nuts.. This is more stressful then my cats or dog!ugh.

Thanks for all the insight.. finny.jpg

Not a great pic but its the best I could get!

Hole in the head starts off as pitting or a pimple. Strands coming from the pits or pimple.
Do you have any snails in the tank.
Lost any fish to bent spines or being thin.

I havent lost any fish at all.. They are healthy happy little things.. Nope no snails.. Just a couple live plants and some ornaments..

I cant tell you for sure if it started as a pimple or not as I just noticed yesterday that he wasnt feeling well.. sigh.. He came up to eat today so that has to be a good sign!

Tiny black spots can be a symtom of fish tb.
Can you post a pic up of the sick fish.

Sorry didn't notice the pic.
Hard to tell in the pic.
How many black spots does he have on him.

seperate the fish into a bucket or spare tank hun save anything spreading to your other fish until you can get the right treatment
i'm sorry to say but a lot of times when dwarfs get something wrong with them they usually die poor things

Okay.. I took him out and stuck him in another tank.. The small betta one I was talking about above.. I tried to get better pics of him but he is not happy with me and darts out of view when I snap.. little bugger!!

He only has a couple spots and I am not sure if he already had them but I am searching him over and over to see whats going on and now I cant remember if they have always been there or not as I have never paid this much attention to him.. The other gourmi that I have has the same dots on him but he seems fine!

Finny is lighter then the other one I have but not as much as I originally thought now that they are side by side..

Ugh.. I dont know what to do.. I have heard of fish TB and it scares the crap out of me.. Soooo.. What now? Help!

It might not be tb but black spot can be a symtom of tb.
Usually the fish will waste away and sometimes bent spine.
Black spot can be caused by snails in the tank.
Some fish have black spots on them but there markings.
Here a tb link so you know what to look for.
