Hi, i got into these fish around 7 months ago and now they are my faves by a million miles, i started off with 4 females and 2 males, within 3 weeks i had lost both males to some very bad advice that was given to me on this forum, it is described on a post in this section somewhere. However, i was quite lucky in that one of my females became pregnant and gave birth to 10 fry, only 1 of these turned out to be a male and yesterday between leaving and returning from work he jumped out the tank and died.
Maybe its just not destined to be but i am trying to find some more of these fish and am having great difficulty, no one on BLA is selling them at the mo so i would really be grateful for some leads.

Many Thanks,

According to the Tropical Fish Finder site, Maidenhead Aquatics at Peterborough has some. If you haven't used the TFF site, try it out the next time you're hunting for fish in the UK trade. I help run the site, and we do try to keep the database as up-to-date as possible. But as ever, since shops might not update their entries every single week, do give them a call before visiting.

What was the bad advice you received?

Cheers, Neale

If i remember you had white spot and was told to warm the water, but these being cool water fish lost a couple :(
Still there around, BLA had a auction sunday where their may of been some but i was training as a judge so missed it.

Fish48 or Dunchp may have an idea or even have them.

If you get true fish then good but i don't trust shop when it comes to these sorts of fish as they don't have the experience with them and you could easily get a different species resulting in nothing or a cross-breed.

Be careful about dissing the Maidenhead Aquatics branch at Peterborough; it's an outstanding store. Emma Turner is the manager, and she's well known in the loach community for stocking rare species. She also supplies photos for the fishkeeping press. If she says she's stocking species X, she almost certainly is.

I've been to the store, and it really is well worth visiting.

Cheers, Neale

Thats fine but shops in general would not have a clue if u walked in looking for this species. I've seen a couple of things.

Example Aquatic Habitat in Gloucester. They had Ameca splendens in as Xenotoca eiseni I corrected them but their still up as incorrect last time i saw.
How they know their thing don't mean i can trust them on everything

thanks for the advice, i was aware of Peteborough having them but its a bit far away. I PM'd Dunchp and fish48 to see if they know of anywhere.

Jonnyf84 sent you a pm. if no Luck get back to me.

There was a pair at the BLA auction. They sold for £4.

If you let me know where you live, I will see if I can put you in touch with a few local breeders.

mmmm still no luck, i've phoned round most of the lfs's to talk to there breeders and contacts but came up with nothing. Fish48, i did email that contact you sent me but have yet to get a reply. I am in Leeds.

Their not like shop swords to breed, what fish48 is saying is if they like your water then they will breed, other time your not get anything for over a year or more even.
