Aquarium on March 25th, 2004. It is about 40 gallons (48 inches long by 12 inches wide by 16 inches high) and has just been emptied of most of it's water. There is still some left over gravel and muck, I'll have to clean it up some more.

Starting in 1999 the tank was used as a Tanganyika setup. Initally there were several fish living among the rocky crevices of my man-made rift lake. However over the last few years they have died off, leaving only a very hardy Julidochromis sp.

Now the last fish is gone and I have a fresh tank to work with. Not sure what type of fish I will get but I do know that:

1. They won't be salt water.
2. Few to no live plants, as I only have two 18'' bulbs to work with.
3. No cichlids; I just did that.
4. No goldfish. (Scratch this, heater just broke)

Overall I'm tired of the 'natural' look. Before the Tangayika setup, I had a 20 gallon South American planted tank. I think a ceramic castle and a few plastic plants might look nice.

Going from all natural to a castle and plastic plants???? Sorry, just a little confused. :)

The tank is a WONDERFUL size and shape. I do have to echo freshmike and say - "you had a (natural) set up and now you want (fake) :dunno: Still, it is YOUR tank and I bet you have a set-up in mind. Now blow us away and show us your progress. You might make a believer outta me yet.

ALASKA

ps - with that nice length I'd go with schooling, little guys and watch them goooo.

Just noticed this is your first post! WELCOME to TFF, you'll have lots of fun :D

It's ok, I was never any good at aquascaping anyway. Basically whatever I do, I'll mess it up. :D

I've bought some fake plants to serve as a background. I've decided to put goldfish in the tank. Now I'll have learn something about them to see what my options are.

I've now added water and turned on the filter. I don't really like how the fake hairgrass plants look in this setup so they will be replaced. A fake piece of driftwood will be put in the middle of the tank, with it's left end resting on the hill toward the left side of the tank.

thats a great size tank. mine is only 36" long... and thats too small for me.

anyway.

Can't wait to see it finished!

Here is the artifical piece of driftwood on the left side of the tank. I've also added some more silk plants to the tank. Off the picture toward the left is an open area for fish to swim in.

A view from the side. The front of the tank is clear so the fish can swim back and forth.
