200ltr tank 6 black widow tetra 1 Dwarf Goramuni. all water stats are fine amm 0 nitrite 0 Nitrate 40-80 ph 7.8. doesnt look like cotton just a slight growth. pic above shows it.

Thanks.

Sorry I couldnt really tell if it was a cotton wool like growth from the picture.

Melafix and Pimafix are safe to use without effecting your filter bacteria, however, if its bacterial then the melafix wont do any good and so just use the pimafix.

Hi Dibbs123 :)

It looks like a fungus growth so you have a bacterial infection of some sort going on. The first thing to do is look for and resolve the cause and the second thing is to treat it.

Since your tank was recently cycled, your fish have been stressed and are more likely to become sick than they would be otherwise. Do water changes to try to reduce the nitrate level before adding any medication. Make sure there is good water circulation so that there is plenty of oxygen in the water. Do a good bottom vacuuming. If the water temperature is higher than 75 F., reduce it for a while. These things will slow the growth of harmful bacteria but won't bother the beneficial bacteria.

Mela fix is a mild antibacterial which might help in some cases. If not, be prepared to get it out of the water before using a stronger medicine.

I hope your fish recovers quickly.

Thanks for the advice I have lowered the temp but added meds before reading post. for the last two weeks I have been doing 50% water changes 3 times a day while the tank was cycling due to hight levels of Nitrite. I also sucked the gravel each time so it shouldnt be that dirty. should I do another 50% change and suck the gravel again.

I am thinking of buying a small tank for these things and for adding new fish. If I put a small foam pad in my filter where the crbon goes and then add this to the tank each time I set it up for meds or new fish will this be ok just to put the foam in the water of the small tank as dont want to spean loads on filters etc.

Thanks again
