Hi all not the best quality pic in the world but can anybody give me some advice on what it could be and how to try treating it??

Cheers Samage have started with antibacterial treatment, yesterday in fact but i have never seen anything like before.

ye gods, that looks like either an open wound or some kind of ulcer !

get some antibacterial stuff in there pronto, prevent infection...

well an antibactirial treatment should help and i's use a vitamin supliment to help it recover and something like metaflex or mythalyne blue will help it heal.

if it dosen't show improvements in the next 3-4days put it down and sorry if i sound hartless but theres no reason for it to suffer longer than it has to.

OMG!!!

What's the water parameter in the tank? Try to do a water change first.

Any other symptoms on the fish? And on other fishies?

Looks like a giant ulcer to me

Could be bacterial infection, could be a secondary infection of fungus or ectoparasites.

And yes, start with a anti bacterial treatment and see how it goes...

Well I just checked on my book.

"Large wounds can be sealed with pharmacy-grade petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) or similar non-toxic skin dressing cream (consult the veterinarian regarding the suitability or otherwise (potential ichthyotoxicity) of any such cream). The cream will serve as an artificial barrier to infection while the wound heals, and in the case of large wounds, may help reduce osmotic stress."

Hi Feline, the water checks out fine the ph is 7.5 and there is no other fish in their, just these two. Hey Cocker (OUCH) bet that hurt. Could the other catfish have spiked it, cos i'm led to beleive that these fish have poisenous spines?

well,

i showed this picture to a friend who is quite specialliced in catfish and he said "oh, thinks like that happen, two males together".

so i would say they had a little argumenting with each other -_-
