I am not sure if my Betta is injured or ill.

I have taken some pics, not great quality, done with a mobile.

At the base of his back, where it meets his fin it looks like he has rubbed away his scales.

I am not sure how to treat this, is it fin rot or self inflicted damage.

He has a habit of damaging himself when he wraps himself round various things and from 'playing' in the gravel.

His appetite seems unaffected.

Any advice etc would be greatly appreciated.

He is also havin problems with the parts in the picture that showing up light coloured in this pic.

I am not sure if I should treat this as fin rot or what?

Is he flicking and rubbing himself on things in the tank.
Any excess mucas on the gills or body of the fish.
Any redness to the patch area.
Does the patch look like a greyish white patch or bleaching bemeath the skin.

How many gallons is the tank.
Is he own his own.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

No

It looks sort of pinky beige, like he has rubbed the scales off, not deliberately as he isn't rubbing against anything.

10 gallons
No he has 2 corydora adolphi
Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, nitrate 40, ph 6.5

I would add a bacterial med to his tank if the wounds are pinky in colour.
Not melafix.

Thanks for that.

I started adding Myxazin, hoping that this would do the trick.

Do you think it is a wound an infection?

Can I ask why not Melafix?

Pink wounds can be bacterial.
Melafix is only really good on cuts and wounds.
Pink like sores that have an edging of white around the edges are ulcers.

Unfortunately I only have access to the camera on my mobile, not the best quality.

The wound is growing. It is definately pink / beige in colour, when the light goes through it is pink.

He is not as active as normal, is resting alot more. He has not lost any of his appetitie. I am though worried about him.

I would change med and then it might not be enough.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet.
Just do a water change and run some black carbon for a few hours then add the interpet med.

Does the wound look like its getting infected.

It does not look infected.

The wound looks uniform in appearence, if it was infected I take it that it would be black or reddish?

sorry to be a pest but what do I do with the black carbon.

You put the black carbon in the filter to remove the med from the tank.
Then remove it from the filter when you add the interpet med.
I was going to say dab the wound if it look infected but it sounds like it isn't.

I meant to do this earlier but thanks for the help and the advice.

After posting this the betta seems to have suffered with just about every disease / illness possible. he never once lost his appetite though.

The fin rot took alot of his top and back fin.

He has eventually come through it all, touch wood.

As I type this he is adding to his bubble nest, he seems a healthy and content fish.

I really appreciate the advice as without it I doubt he would still be here.

Glad he back to his old self bless him.
Well Done.
