i dont know wether to go with one shoal(for effect) or 2 that are half the size of just 1 shoal. do any of you have any pics of your big shoals

ie 10+

i would love to see how they look and what kind of effect they have

In my tank i have 10 neons and 10 rummy nose tetras in with my discus. I think having the two together adds to the look of the tank instead of having just the one shoaling group. Also they go different ways (obviously :good: ) instead of all shoaling in one group. IMO i think it makes the tank look better to have two different shoals. Im sorry i dont have any pics to go up.

Im sure whatever you decide the tank will look great.

well im stuck between getting

10 neons and 10 glowlights
10 neons and 10 WCMM's
10 glowlights and 10 WCMM
10 rummy nose and 10 neons
10 rummy nose and 10 glowlights
10 rummy nose and 10 WCMM's
0r
20 neons
20 glowlights
20 rummynose
20 WCMM's

has anyone got any pics of a big shoal?

There was a time when I had a shoal of about 50 Cardinal tetra in my 5ft Discus tank, and that was an amazing sight.... :good:

But if you want two seperate shoals, you have to be careful in your selection.
In my experience Black Neons, regular Neons, Glowlights, Cardinals etc will all stick togother in one group.

So perhaps you need to look at two groups with entirely different body shape to keep them seperated.

I personally think one big shoal would look better than two smaller shoals - but it comes down to what you prefer

If it was my choice i would have 20 rummy noses. I have always found them to shoal very tightly and i think would look spectactular.

how bout 5 congo tetra?

my 6 denisons are great to watch when they shoal as its like follow the leader at high speed.....

I did have 40 harliquins..... Alas no only 14.... i was thinking of a slightly larger fish like tetras or barbs that my pictus wouldn't eat but i do love my harliquins essp. at feeding... looks like upward rain.

I have 10 glowlight and 10 neons that shoal together but I also have 10 Cherry Barbs and they seem to prefer being at the top.

My Barbs shoal together alot at the top of the tank. Unfortunately my barbs have got white spot at the moment and are in a treatment tank. Without them the one shoal does still look good but the tank looked better with both shoals.....1 at the top and 1 at the bottem.

why not go with the rummy noses and neon tetras... they might shoal together if thats your thing?

when i want a shoal i try go for some neon tetras and white clouds because they shoal together and it looks pretty cool. thats my personal opinion anyway.

tiger barbs are awsome fish too but it does limit what you can put in with them
