Hi, these are my first Cory's, I have just introduced them to my 30 ltr tank that currently houses Boris my Betta.

The sign on the tank was Corydora atropersonatus, but looking at the pictures on here I don't think they are. They told me they would grow to only about 4-5cm max not the 7-8 cm of others.

Am now worried they are going to be the bigger ones and my little tank won't be suitable for them.

Also I apologise for the poor quality of the pictures, my camera is not very good and they are really active!

They have a black band over their eyes and a black splodge kind of half way up their bodies running to nearly the tip of their fin, but the back of the fin is clear. They are a light creamy colour with little spots all over.

Hope that helps

Hi flippajh.

Those are NOT C. atropersonatus. This is a C. atropersonatus:

From what little I can see and your description, they are probably C. virginiae.

Cheers.

Not sure as the pics are blurred but are they Adolfi ?

Thanks guys,

Sorry the pics aren't very good, a new camera is on my Christmas list!

They are a dark cream colour and are speckled all over, the band on their back runs horizontally up the fin and they have a black band over their eyes. After looking on a few sites, the ones that look most similar are Leucomelas or Melanistius, but again not sure.

Thanks

Philippa

If you are fairly sure it is one or the other of Melanistius or Leucomelas, there are some significant differences that I see between those two in their tail patterns and the head shapes. The Melanistius seems to not have much color at all in the tail while the Leucomelas seems to have a fairly strong set of vertical stripes in the tail.

Thanks, thats great, they have got very clear tails, absolutely no markings on them, so I gues that makes them Melanistius.

Will have a read up about them now!

GAK!

Good call oldman47. I missed the part about the spots. The one in the middle looks like a different species though. But it could also just be the angle.
