I tested my tanks on Friday and everything was fine. I added two new plants to my tank to finish replacing the last of my plastic ones. (YEAH ?) or is this my problem?

We went away for the weekend. I came home and my 55 (which is were I added the new plants) Is always crystal clear was now cloudy and my favorite male paradise gourami is mis-shapened and swimming funny. I did a water test right away to see. For some reason my nitrates where off the wall. Every thing else tested fine. I did a 30% water change. The water was green in the bucket,

Could the new plants of caused it?

Is there anything else I can or should do?

I removed my Gourami from the tank and put him in my hospital tank with melafix and salt.

Help!!! He also seems very thin.

If he is very thin it sounds like parasites to me. I would try some medicine for parasites. Jungle makes a good medicine for parasites. Walmart sells that here where I live. I hope he gets ok for you. I would try another water change mabey a 40 percent one this should be all you need to do to get the nitrates back down.

I do not know the names of the plants so I took pictures. Let me know if I should remove them from my tank.

I bought this one because I wanted some color other than green and white. It has pink in it. It is the one in the back. The one in the shell has been in there for a week or so.

They were in a tank with all plants that looked fairly clean. :dunno:

This one my silver dollar started eating right away. He has never done that before with any of the plants.

As long as I am asking....here are my other plants.

This one grows like wild. I bought it a month or so ago and have grown enought to put in all my other tanks.

edit: I guess the pic shows two plants. The one that grows fast is the tall one with all of the little leaves

This I was told was a banana plant. I have seen it in many fish stores.
