Help! I know i have recently posted alot of stuff in the emergancy section.... but i have alot of emergancies! My grey discus has some white stuff on his body, i think it's fungus, i don't know! tell me what is is and if you can, tell me how to treat it.
This is a image of it. DSC00012.JPG

mmm your not having a fun time with discus are you? did you research them or just impulsly buy them m8? by the sounds of your tank its not really cycled yet as you still have ammonia being produced.

i can tell you for fungus get something like pimafix.

as for the ammonia readings still being there... if i were you m8 id take the discus back to the store and wait until your tank reads 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite(which i noticed you havent posted a reading for) and 0-20 nitrate.

i really love these fish and ill be starting a discus tnak befor christmas. i couldnt bare loosing one and i think youll probably end up loosing the 2 youve posted about if you dont get them back to the store. i may be wrong and your reading may be due to some other reason but if its showing ammonia they may die. id rather take them back and know theyve lived then to see them die and loose 100$+ each fish. :) my thoughts on the matter.

everything else like ph u seem to have gotten right though. try some beef heart ive heard, duno but yeah. id take em back and fully establish the tank. maybe keep some other fish like angels or SD's until ur sure the tank is right.

ill be setting a tank up next week which most probably will be a discus tank in the future, after i get my saltwater tank stocked (cycling starts tommorrow YEY). ill be establishing the discus tank then when alls good ill be keeping 3 XL-L silver dollars for 5 months in there befor ill be sure its discus ready. then they can go back into their 12" their currently in :).

that s one very unhappy fish

water stats please, ph temp, NH3, NO2, NO3,

when was the fish added, please describe how it got to this state

Hi RedDiscus,

If your tank is not fully cycled then using ammo lock or similar products will slow / stop the process altogether. I would seriously consider humpys advise and return the fish to the store until you have an established fish tank or you may very well end up with some expensive floating corpses.

If this is not an option for you I would do daily 20%+ water changes to try to combat the amonia poisonous affects, again this is probably going to slow the cycle process.

You may want to read this link below if you havent already.

yea m8'y to be honest your discus probably wont ever be very healthy now. read the articles on ammonia poisening. all u can do is please re house them cause they will begin dying soon. you can always buy them back or if you have to buy other specimans ur probably better off, but id say in ur case if they are a reputable fish store they will hold the fish because selling them to someone else would ruine their reputation as a fish which has had ammonia poison is a fish who will never be as healthy as one who hasnt and most probably has a shortened life and or susceptible to any disease.

take the advise. theres no doubt, if they r still alive, and i say this because i would expect any time now with the exposure and continued exposure they may very well be dead for what i know, get the back to the store beg and plead if you have to. if they require maintanance and feeding fee's they do it for the sake of the fish. This will not stop you fish dying as the damage may be to fare through but tell the store everything that has happened that they have been through an ammonia spike in a cycled/uncycled tank and you r going to stabilise the tank but need re housing for a few weeks and you should tell them ur willing to do anything if you rly care bout these fish

find another store that will take them or give them to somebody else. They will all die otherwise

He looks a lot better, if he is eating and his colour is good then it looks as though he has recovered.

However on a bad note, he may have been stunted by this little incident so don't expect him to reach full potential.

Well done.
