Hi All,

Here is my 1st tank.

Eco-complete substrate topped with Roman black gravel. Tetratec 700 filter, T5 lighting. 2 Golden white Cloud and two white cloud mountain minnows. I intend to add more plants if these survive (the plants) and increase fish with similar size varietys as the tank is on the small side although have not decided on which fish yet. Excuse rear glass as requires a clean.

Ideas welcome.

Thanks IC1.

Hi, seeing as you have a Eco-complete substrate, decent lighting, and if you dosed with liquid ferts once aweek, you could have an aray of plants in there.
Heres a few i would suggest....

Amazon swords
Vallis
java fern
hornwort
cabomba
anubis
moneywort
pennywort
wisteria
crypts

Have you thought about DIY Co2?

I would also suggest afew cory's 5-6 to help with waste. Maybe a pair of dwarf cichlid? kribensis, bolivian ram, german ram, cockatoo?

Its very similar to my community tank. I have the same tank and eco complete but have Roman sand instead of the gravel and the t8 lighting instead of t5 but my plants are growing really well.

My Valis and Amazon swords have grown really well in there so I can recomend these, you should be able to grow most plants in there to be honest.

As for fish I'm not fully stocked yet but have a group of Harlequin Rasboras, various shrimp and a few Corys in my tank curently. I'm planning to add another shoal of small fish at some point but i'm not sure what yet. All are doing well together so I can recommend all of these.

Thanks guys.

I will take on board all off your suggestions. I'm not at all sure about what to put in there yet. tbh I wouldn't mind a larger tank!

Any way I think I will keep tetra based, king blue and blood fin are taking my eye at the moment. I would like to keep to small fish. I certainly need more plants though.

Hi Guys,

6 months ish later...Spiralis died, added the vallis, 3ottos and, 4 neons. currently have a big out break of hair algae which is proving to be quite stubborn (not using ferts at all). May try a nuke next!

Now:

1 white cloud and 4 mountain minnow, 4 neon, 3 ottos.

Well that's why then. Plants aren't getting what they need to grow and so algae takes hold.
It's probably a combination of low nutrients and low CO2.

An interesting hypothesis Radar, alothugh apart from the spiralis the other plants are growing like lunatics and I need to keep cuttingback? No probs with growth, other guesses welcome!

Miah I was thinking of upping them, although my 3 do not ever touch the hair, it is mainily on the plant leaves.

Bottom line is in a planted tank if you get algae then indeed you are missing something out.

Have a looky here.
