i just want to know how long has a platy been pregnant before they get big? Also, Sunny has gotten bigger and im going away for 3 days and wondering if i should put her in the breeder in case she has babies. She has gotten bigger since other pic i posted a while ago. when she is facing back you can see a big black spot on the back of her stomach.
the one on the right is her, left is reflection. sorry im not so good at pics  You can kinda see the spot in the back at her.

when you say put her in the breeder do you meen a breeding trap or a breeding tank? If you meen trap then dont she will get stressed and die. If you are unsure that she is about to give birth just make sure you have some dense plants in your tank this way if she releases fry some will survive hidden in the plants. :good:

I don't know if she's due!!!!!! I have fake plants in the tank and one large plastic floating. the last time one had them while i was away NONE survived!!!! i am going away for threee days and i don't want to lose all the fry and her!!!! I will try to get a better pic of her so SOMEONE can tell me if she's due. other people in a dif thread say she a had 2 weeks to go but since then she has gotten really big!!!

if you are in the uk i bought some plants from wilkinsons it looked like feathers (thats the only way i can explain it) it is very dense only cost about a pound for 2 put them together and hopefully some will survive in there thats were all my fry hide and mostof them survive

I have just been on ebay and they have those plants on there fo reference item number 290247629880 they are called natural fern ( they are false) but if you could pop to your local lfs or wilkinsons you could pick some up give them a go :good:

not in uk. not sure if mom will buy more plants. ill send a pic of my plant. i also have a castle that has holes to hide inand lots of spaces in gravel. will that be enough?

If you're going for three days definitely don't use a breeding trap. This is the way I see it.

You leave the fish in the tank, she gives birth. You lose most of the fry but she's fine.
You leave the fish in the tank, she doesn't give birth. The mother is fine, you still (possibly) get the fry.
You put her in the breeder and she's not ready to give birth - she aborts the fry and possibly dies of stress herself.
You put her in the breeder and she is ready to give birth within a day or so - she panics because there is nowhere for the fry to hide, tries to hang onto them and they are all stillborn at some later date. (Or dies of stress.)

I hate breeder traps except as a way of raising fry in the main tank. I do not use them for females dropping. They are too stressful and unreliable.
