I just noticed an odd sore area on one of my new panda corydoras. The area is kind of red and is located near, but not on the gills of the cory. Can anyone tell me what this sore red area is? Also, what is causing it and what can I do to treat it? The red spot is only present on this one catfish in my tank so I am a little bit worried :(.

I'll attatch a picture since I am not describing it very well...

Hi

How long have you had the Pandas?

Sam

That certainly looks like a bacterial infection that needs to be treated asap.

I suggest you post in the Emergencies thread immediately to get help for the appropriate meds for your part of the world.

Best of luck.

I have not been able to find out what the red spot was until now, but Thanks. i will try to find the right meds to treat the bacterial infection as soon as I can.

The red spot has sort of faded since i first took the picture, but I will still treat the cory with something.

Do you know which medication I should use to treat it? (I live in the US)

Well, my 'guess' is septicemia which gram negative and can be treated with tetracycline. But this is just a guess.

Should I treat the infection with a medication that works for both gram positive and negative bacteria just to be safe?

I wouldn't but as I stated earlier in this thread I'm not an expert on diseases and you really should move this thread to the tropical fish emergencies forum and try to get an opinion from wilder.

Please ask wilder.
