Hey! I got a new female Betta on Wednesday, and finally took some photos :D

She was labelled she, but as shes young I am unsure if its right. I'm also unsure on the tail type and colours. shes been stripy since Wednesday!

I *think* shes DRCT.. but it will be easier to tell in a few weeks.

For the first day she was refusing to eat, and even if she felt like it she didn't have much choice because the guppy and endlers were swimming accross and taking her pellets. Lol!
But since ive been putting her in a jug to make sure she eats, and yesterday and today she has eaten 3 pellets in the morning and 3 in the evening. Will try some Daphnia tomorrow :good:

Anyway heres some pics, i found it better with the flash off because I didnt have the background on at the time, so the flash just reflected straight back :/

Heres the first:

she looks very stressed

be interesting to see how she colours up :good:

Don't only the females get stripes?? I'm not a betta expert, but I do think they are pretty :)

If the question is if she is a she, then I'd say definite!!...... The prominent horizontal lines in Betas are the sure give away, even when they are young.

again this isnt true, males display these stress stripes too

She was very shy at the shop, there was about 10 plants in the tank and the assistant had to take about 8 out before we found her. Had me doubting if I was pointing at the wrong tank!

Anyway, she isn't being harrassed or anything. She's in with 4 rummy nose tetras, 2 cherry barbs, 3 julii catfish, 1 femaly guppy, 2 male endler guppies, and an oto plec. She mostly hangs around with the guppies and oto.. more of a wind up with the oto though

They all get along fine!

My guess is that she is stripy because shes young. (Probably 2-3 months, as she is about 1.5-2")

Like Pheonix says, males get them too.

The part that confuses me is the long vents and pointy anal fin. Maybe if she isnt female, then its a Male HMDRCT

ok just a quick one, i dont feel imo that she should be in with tetras and barbs, theyre fin nippers, and altho her fins arent as long as the males, they still get chomped on

also endler guppies, and the female, is kinda a bad mix too, bettas dont fare well with them

but this is my opinion

also id say from her anal fin, shes a PK

Depends on your experiences really.

Shes very well behaved, as are all my fish.

I am setting another tank up tomorrow, as I know it could all change when shes a bit bigger (and the endlers can fit in her mouth!)

But for now all is good. I'm not snubbing your advice I just know theres no conflict in the tank at the moment :p

yeah..... for the moment lol

btw as per my pm, can u plz reply

Yes, young males also have these horizontal stripes, but not as prominent as this .. You've got a female....

your very adamant about your opinions arent you ludwig?

im not gonna disagree though because i know nothing about bettas haha

yes they do, i had two males showing stripes as prominant as this before, so stop talking rubbish

yes its deffo a female, but this judgement using stripes is often wrong
