Bloated Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish

She is still with us, still fat, on the lookout for food though we have only put in peas which she still spits out, cucumber..not interested and a tiny fragment of algae wafer to check she was still eating- which she wolfed down.

Doesn't seem any thinner despite epsom salts, will try aeration but we have very good aeration on the other tank as we have rainbows and denisons barbs so ensure lots of surface movement.

She is doing lots of mouth opening- ?gasping but not at the surafce and is actively swimming and doesn't look overly poorly.

Should I treat her with anything?? She has no scales sticking out,her gills seem ok...

All our other fish are fine and all water parameters in both tanks normal still.

ps thankyou all for your input...greatly appreciated!! :flowers:

Is there an air pump in the main tank? Surface movement is great, but it's not really a substitute for a proper air pump.

Could you post a pic of the affected fish?

We do have an air pump as well in the maintank and don't use co2 either. All the other fish are fine and don't lurk near the surface. She has only started overbreathing since she became fat.

I will try and put a piccy on this evening when back from work.

Well here goes..nipped back at lunch..sorry about size and quality...rubbish at editing/resizing photos.
Looks ok side on, fat when look frontways. All our others are very slim width ways.

Is the fish still breathing heavily.

Not so much this afternoon. She is still quite active.

Not quite sure what to do next ..if anything.Perhaps just watch and wait??

Update :- She is still ridiculously fat, in fact I would asay more today. I fed her today a tiny amount as we've ben starving her.
She is still active . ... does anyone have a clue from the photos what could be wrong..if anything ..and how long should we keep her in the hospital tank??

EDIT I have no idea how that person in a hat ended up in my post!!

Is she still going to the toilet.
How is she in herself.
All you can do is epsons baths if you think she not carrying eggs.

the pics are too small for me to be able to see anything :) sorry too much time in front of the computer and now I'm almost blind

Hmmmm, got the same thing with my male betta. Don't know what it is neither.

Is your fish still o.k?

Yes,she is still active and feeding but still very fat. Thinking of putting her back in the main tank as she must be getting lonely. Who knows what has caused it????
