And a question about visible differences between molly and platy fry... are molly fry a bit longer and sleeker, whereas platy fry a bit plumper? comparing same or similar age. I ask because we've got 2 female platys and 2 female mollies in the tank, and I know the platys recently dropped fry, but some look a bit different so I'm wondering if the mollies dropped a few as well.

Thanks in advance!

Yes probably then...the best way to tell is always bu comparing as looking for a certain feature eg. thinner on its own can be difficult.
those are pregnant too!

See how the bottom of that yellow molly is like one straight line with about equal distance up to the head and the tail? She's squared off - usually this means fry within three days. The black dalmatian is pregnant as well, probably another week to two weeks to go. Molly fry are born larger than platy fry but grow slower. Platy fry also tend to colour up faster. Molly fry from dalmatians or greys are often born with spots or patches, but will stay black and white or grey and white for some time. Platy fry that are born with spots or patches often have colour as well. Plain molly fry are slightly yellowish or else white or grey. Plain platy fry can be bright pink or orange.
