Hi guys n gals

My feather fins have made a grand recovery - thanks for all your advice on that. I returned rom a night away to find my angel fish - the bulting one, upside on the bottom of the tank, fins incredibly ragged, pulsing gills, very innactive even when netting to my hospital tank.

He's usually a black colour with a few silver and orange blobs. The picture is quite accurate of his colour now. Mostly silver with a strange pinkness to it. Would I be right in thinking skin/gill flukes? Last night he ate one mosel but today he has really gone downhill. I did wonder if he'd been rounded on by my other two angels....who have been getting a fair bit bigger of late.....and he's just been badly beaten and is super-stressed....

Any help please....I can't stand it when fish get unwell....

Cheers

Corry

Gill flukes take time to cause problems and cause the fish to breathe heavily and often gasp at the surface. Skin parasites usually show up as a grey film over the fish and the fish will normally rub on ornaments in the tank.
Personally it looks like the angelfish has had the crap kicked out of it, probably by the other angels.
Keep the water clean but don't have too much water movement in its tank. If it starts feeding then it might be ok. If it doesn't feed in the next day or so it will probably die.

Thanks for that Colin

I've noticed that by this afternoon all his scales have fallen off, slow and laboured gill movements and lying on his side, hasn't moved at all. If there's no improvement overnight I shall euthanaise if he's not already gone :(

Signs of skin and gill flukes are.
Opaque body with excess slime, can sometimes look like a greyish colour with excess slime.
Gasping at the surface of the tank.
Excess mucas on the gills, or red and inflamed gills.
Weightloss.
Swimming in a jerky movement.
Sores on the body of the fish.
Flicking and rubbing against objects.
Sometimes spitting food out.

Thanks Wilder. None of these seemed to apply, certainly no slime or gasping at the surface, sometimes one can end up trying to see something that isn't there just so one can help the litle critters. As it was Archie died overnight on the 27th. Very sad to see the big guy go....others remaining in the main tank are happy as larry tho'...hopefully for some time to come....thanks again for all your help.

Bacerial infections can also make fish breath heavy or labour breath.
R.I.P.
