wow, stunning CFC, is he hand feeding yet  . great markings and if I'm not wrong, they get better with age don't they.

ste :)

is the common name for that catfish hoplo????[/QUOTE

Sorry no, my leiarius is just a baby and is already bigger than a adult hoplosternum, when adult it will be 24"+ and could swallow hoplo's whole! The common name sometimes used for these cats is sailfin pim.

Before you panic and think you may have two of these beasts unless you paid around £60 each for them then they are not leiarius pictus cats, they are not commonly seen in shops and always command a high price tag.

nope iv defo got hoplo's i just cant find much info on them tho :(

did u notice tho that urs and hoplos have the same colourings? and patterns, even tho urs will blend as it gets older?

I have hoplo's too, in fact if you look to the rear left of the picture you can actually see both of them nosing about the substrate. Hoplo's are great liitle cats which make good tankmates for small and medium sized fish and will eat any leftovers from messy fish such as predatory cats and peaceful cichlids. They have a maximum size of around 6 or 7 inches and are very long lived, mine are around 4 years old and are nearly full grown.

how can u tell which is male an femlae? i know as they grow older the male will have a bright oragne barbel???

see iv got 2, but ones realy lighter than the other... where as one is black/dark brown the other is brown/light cream..
